Raising pets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most significant positive changes that have occurred in the Saudi society in the last 10 years.

Remarkable increase and growth

We find a remarkable increase and growth when looking at the figures related to the pet industry in Saudi Arabia and its related sectors, such as food, care tools, accessories and veterinary units. The size of the pet food market has reached $750 million, with a growth rate of 8.1%. 

The pet care market has experienced a growth rate of 8.22% compared to the previous year. Studies indicate that this percentage is expected to be the highest among all sectors in the next five years. These trends align with the notable progress in citizens’ desire to raise and care for pets.

A notable increase in veterinary services

One of the factors supporting the growing trend of acquiring and caring for pets in Saudi Arabia is the notable increase in the number of veterinary clinics. Currently, there are 434 clinics, and the amount of specialized veterinary pharmacies has increased to 1366, catering specifically to the needs of pets. 

Also, the 3 specialized veterinary hospitals reflect the growing demand for comprehensive and specialized healthcare services for pets, further encouraging the concept of pet ownership and care in Saudi Arabia. 

International and local investors 

Due to the remarkable development in this market, many international and local specialized companies tend to invest in this sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Investment opportunities vary between food, care, care tools, accessories, pharmacy, and pet insurance. 

To cater to the increased number of pet industry professionals in the area, local company City Events organized the first Pet & Vet Exhibition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2022 with more than 100 international and local exhibitors. It includes many activities and workshops aimed at raising awareness of pet health and discussing new investment channels between companies for pet supplies and veterinary medicine. 

The event was a huge success, the second edition of Saudi Pet & Vet Expo will be at Riyadh Intl. Convention & Exhibition Center, 13 - 15 November 2023.
